We headed to NC Monday morning. One of the wives on the forum gave me her phone number to call for an update when we got in. She said we should be at the barracks between 5 and 6 in morning, so we all got up around 3 to get everyone showered, etc. Got there right around 5. The weather was not cooperative. They had set up tents thinking everyone could just hang around outside, but it was cold, windy and rainy so we were huddled indoors for most of the wait. They had muffins, coffee, etc for everyone. We found the parents of Willie’s buddy, James and talked to them a while. They had a kids room set up with videos playing so Caleb and Marissa were eating donuts and watching TV. Marissa puppy eyed a Marine out of a Girl Scout cookie. We waited in the car for a while, to warm up, it rained pretty hard, then a rainbow came out over the barracks (you’ll see the photo in the video).
The platoons finally started coming out around 8:00. Each platoon came out separately. We were finally able to see Willie and get some breakfast and take Rachel shopping at the PX for some Marine wear. I specifically picked our hotel because they had a play area and picnic tables, thinking we could sit outside and visit, the kids could run and play……NEHHH, it was about 60 degrees, rainy and windy. Willie was tired anyway, luckily Dani brought a couple board games, so we just hung out in the rooms, they played Risk and we ordered in pizza. It was good trip, until we hit WV heading home. Got stuck in traffic due to a bad accident up the road, but Chris came to our rescue with Mapquest, figuring out where we would end up if we exited. DUH….Mark realized all we had to do was hit the Onstar button. Its going to expire in a couple months and we’ve never used it. Then Caleb got sick a couple times. Anyway, here’s the video
